In the same amount of time it takes to snap your fingers and command a "Wagon Wheel Watusi," a decade can shimmy by. At least that's the sentiment you get when talking to the artists behind the 2010 musical Burlesque, a true showgirl of a studio spectacle that never got its proper due in the Hollywood spotlight.

One decade after the film's Nov. 24, 2010 release, those who took writer-director Steven Antin's vision from far-off fantasy to a dream come true all attest: The memories of the magic they experienced on set are still as vivid as they were all those years ago. But they never got to fully share that excitement at the time of release. Plagued by stories of on-set clashes that overshadowed the production's aesthetic merits, Christina Aguilera's first feature film (and Cher's debut screen musical) had to find its audience after a middling theatrical curtain call, eventually blossoming into an enduring cult phenomenon that's still inspiring everything from drag queen revues to viral internet moments, 10 years later.

MICHAEL KAPLAN (costume designer): I wanted a modern take on burlesque with a retro feel and a nod to its history and origins. Naughtiness without being crass! There's a bit of the Crazy Horse Saloon in Paris, the musical Cabaret, as well as the '60s TV show Hullabaloo as well as the Follies Bergère.

AGUILERA: I had always been inspired by throwback classic pin-up art and burlesque style, essentially all things celebrating the female body and sexuality, so I was already versed in the history and appeal of this world, conceptually. I collected books, had played with burlesque style on my Back to Basics tour, and explored visual concepts and songs (including "Nasty Naughty Boy," about a striptease).

STEWART: The set had been built out on a miniature scale, then we got to see the set built out into the real thing, and they had us walk through the whole set that was being built for those numbers so we could feel the essence of what needed to happen in those scenes. "Express" is the fruit of actually having them explain their vision, then the vision [for that song] came out through the music.

ANTIN: It's inspired by Burlesque: A re-imagination. It morphs what's best about TV, Broadway, film, and digital entertainment. It's a hybrid television event/series taking the movie to the next level.

As a leader, heel height is consistent across ballroom and smooth shoes. A half-inch heel is common as it allows for proper movement and technique. A 1.5 inch heel is common within Latin and Rhythm shoes.

Burlesque is a form of dance fitness that has grown in popularity in recent years thanks to increased exposure in pop culture. Burlesque is a good exercise for beginning and advanced dancers because it welcomes all body types and sizes and it focuses on slow, controlled movements that build muscle strength and coordination. If you've never done dance fitness before, it helps to get in shape before trying a class. Burlesque dancing requires a strong core and works the abdominal muscles, glutes and quads. Learning to dance burlesque can lead to increased confidence and greater body acceptance.

Practice walking in high heels and stockings. Burlesque dancers perform in stiletto heels that can be daunting to beginners. Start with a 1/2-inch heel and work your way up to 2 inches. Warm up by rolling your ankles slowly 10 times in each direction. Use an instability platform to do squats and ankle lifts. These exercises will give your legs, calves and ankles the strength they need to perform burlesque.

Keep up with cardio outside of class. Burlesque dance is an effective toning and cardio workout itself but doing extra cardio can help with stamina when you are dancing. Try cardio workouts such as fast walking, swimming, aerobic classes or DVDs in order to increase endurance and get fit to perform burlesque. The combination of cardio and burlesque toning will help to give you the desired curves of a burlesque dancer.

Producing shows is a point of pride for me, and because of my successes and failures over the past 3 years of producing burlesque shows I thought that it would be useful to some to write about some of my opinions about producing a good, entertaining and successful show.

I know that all over the world, especially in cities congested with burlesque performers a backswing is happening. I personally feel that while burlesque is getting more recognition in popular media with classes, movies and shows, the hard working, solid burlesque performer often finds themselves suffering a bit more than they should to be a respected fancy lady and to make their art.

I really do think that producing shows, especially- burlesque is an art to be honed over many years. I am a better producer today that I was 3 years ago. And I intend to continue to grow. I make mistakes, and do everything in my power to correct it quickly, at times eating costs and swallowing my pride. Anyone can produce a show, and in fact I encourage anyone with the desire to produce to try it, but I hope that they might read my piece first before considering to do so. When you produce a burlesque show, know that what you create represents burlesque as a whole to all of those new people that may come to your show. You are helping them to either fall in love with it-or find it boring and uninspiring.

When you create a show, you are bringing another show into your community. Does your community need another show? Or do those shows in your community need to be lifted up and promoted in order to make burlesque a more stable commodity in the entertainment world? More is not necessarily better. Sometimes more dilutes the potency of the sparkly product.

The notion that the perpetuation of burlesque history past and present belongs to a certain formula is erroneous and representative of a certain single narrative being perpetuated. The advice you give of not producing because you want to work is problematic in an arena where cronyism and the lack of true professionalism is prevalent. Nevermind the fact that most performers of color are having to choose to produce to get booked or to be able to create a narrative that accurately represents their presence and legacy in the artform.

1. If you want to perform/produce burlesque, research the artform in its entirety, not just the last 10 years or the parts that appeal to your sense of aesthetic. Understand the waters in which you tread and thoughtfully consider how to add to them. If you plan to change the definition/perception, be willing to own the backlash that is coming your way.

Austen's novels have variously been described as politically conservative and progressive. For example, one strand of criticism claims that her heroines support the existing social structure through their dedication to duty and sacrifice of their personal desires. Another argues that Austen is sceptical of the paternalistic ruling "other", evidenced by her ironic tone. Within her exploration of the political issues surrounding the gentry, Austen addresses issues relating to money and property, particularly the arbitrary quality of property inheritance and the precarious economic position of women. Throughout her work there is a tension between the claims of society and the claims of the individual. Austen is often considered one of the originators of the modern, interiorized novel character. 2ff7e9595c
